The iPhone GPS returns coordinates based on WGS84 which is identical to new Geocentric Datum of Australia 94 system. However, old maps based on Australian Geodetic Datum 66 & 84 are still widely used, and these WGS84 coordinates can not be used on old maps unless they are converted into a proper format. The difference between WGS84 and AGD66/84 varies across the country.
